Combination (Combo) Truck
Jet and vacuum in a single rig.
A combo truck pairs high-pressure water jetting with vacuum recovery, so it can clear a sewer or pipe and remove the debris in one trip. It is the most versatile unit in the fleet.
What a combination (combo) truck is
A combination truck (commonly "combo" or "vactor") carries both a high-pressure water jetting system and a vacuum recovery system on one chassis. The jetter scours pipe walls, catch basins, and sewers while the vacuum recovers the dislodged material. Many combo units are also rated for hydro excavation, making them a flexible choice for crews that need one rig for several tasks.
How it works
A reel of high-pressure hose feeds a jetting nozzle into the pipe; the nozzle’s rearward jets propel it forward and scour the line, flushing debris back toward the access point where the vacuum recovers it into the debris tank. Switching modes lets the same truck pothole and daylight utilities using the water-and-vacuum method.
When to choose a combo
Choose a combo truck for sewer and storm-line cleaning, catch-basin and lift-station maintenance, and mixed jobs that need both jetting and vacuum in one mobilization. For excavation-only work, a dedicated hydrovac truck is more focused; for pure liquid haul-off, a liquid vacuum truck is simpler.
What a combo handles
- Sanitary and storm sewer cleaning
- Catch-basin and culvert clean-out
- Hydro jetting of blocked pipe
- Lift-station and wet-well maintenance
- Hydro excavation (combo-rated units)
- Grease and root removal
Questions
Combination (Combo) Truck FAQ
What is a combination (combo) truck?
A combo truck combines a high-pressure water jetter and a vacuum on one chassis. It cleans sewers, storm lines, and catch basins by jetting the debris loose and vacuuming it up in the same visit. Many combo units can also perform hydro excavation.
Can a combo truck do hydrovac excavation?
Combo-rated units can. The same high-pressure water and vacuum systems used for sewer cleaning can pothole and daylight utilities. If excavation is the main task, a dedicated hydrovac truck is purpose-built for it.
